Little boy energy
It is very quiet – for now – in New Jersey. Jackie has already caught her train to work, and the upstairs boys are all still sleeping. They will be down sometime soon to get breakfast and pack backpacks for a school day. Ibrahim is in charge of morning duty so he is the ringmaster for this particular little circus.
Yesterday I had an uneventful flight to LaGuardia airport. I found a sandwich and a Starbucks while I waited for Jackie to come from work and pick me up. As I was sitting by the luggage carousel with my bag safely in my possession – I never assume but am always glad when it shows up. There was an empty seat next to me. A tall, slender, and very well-dressed man asked if he could sit. He was pushing a luggage cart with several crates piled on.
Of course I had to ask him about the contents. “Oh”’ he said’ “I’m going to be doing a book signing tonight in Brooklyn and these are my books.” Hey, a fellow author. I inquired about the genre. “Mysteries”, he said. “Some of them are going to become Netflix specials.”. He was surprised that I had not heard of him because he is a best-selling international author. Then I had to know his name: John Alan Andrews. I didn’t disclose that I would be googling him to see just how famous he is. For all I knew, he might have been a legend – in his own mind. Anyway, he is a good salesperson because he managed to sell me one of his books. I’m a sucker for a writer colleague…
Jackie arrived shortly after my encounter with Mr. Andrews and we took off into New York City traffic. I’m telling you, I would not make it as a driver in NYC. People are crazy on those streets. Speaking of driving, while we were enroute to New Jersey I got a phone call related to my Saint Patrick’s day auto accident when my car was damaged front and back. My Prius is now a thing of the past and I will be looking for another vehicle very soon. That makes me a little sad because I have so enjoyed the wonderful gas mileage in a hybrid car. Those days may be over as I look for a fairly new used Subaru. Subaru because they have an excellent safety rating and I feel like I need that these days!
When we pulled into home’s driveway, two faces were watching out the window. Cameron came busting out the front door. “Yaya!!! Let’s do puzzles!!”. Xander was hiding under a blanket on the couch and we had to have a conversation with the sitter about how she might have left him at school and wasn’t that too bad. Before long his sweet little face popped out. “I’m right here!!”, he exclaimed.
Tomorrow is the big day when we go into the city to see The Lion King. Xander has a birthday party earlier at Chuck E Cheese so we will all be attending that as well. He wants to be sure that the Lion King will not interfere with his party. Let’s get our priorities straight here.
There is noise upstairs so I expect that a barrage of boy energy (including Ibrahim’s) will come bustling down the stairs. I am blessed to be in their company for the next few days.
